Exercise For Your Health
"But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness." (1 Timothy 4:7)
Many people feel a surge of enthusiasm as they tighten their sneakers laces and start yet another fitness program. But half the people who start an exercise program abandon it within three to six months. I being one of them.
I have discovered that successful exercisers broadened their notions of exercise to include all sorts of physical activities that conform to their liking ~ not some standard exercise prescription.
The biggest secret to their success? HAVE FUN!
Play sports, try tossing a football or baseball with a friend, shoot hoops, or knock a tennis ball against a wall. For less strenuous sports play softball, double tennis, volleyball, hula hoop, or tossing a Frisbee.
Dance. If nightclubs aren’t your style, consider the inexpensive evenings of dance that many community groups offer.
Pursue active hobbies. Bicycles are likely safer and more comfortable than you remember. If your near water, go swimming, snorkeling, rowing, canoeing, or kayaking. Near snow, try tobogganing, cross~country skiing or snowshoeing. Nurture interests that encourage physical activity such as gardening, hiking, bird~watching, photography, or rock climbing.
Romp with the kids and grandkids. Kick a soccer ball, play tag, or have a water~gun fight. Challenge youngsters to a round of “Dance, Dance, Revolution,” a video game whee you match dance steps to those on a screen. Plan active field trips to nature centers, zoos, historical sites, even the local play ground.
Workouts, Your Way…
For simple satisfying results, tailor your routine to fit your goals.
To make exercise a priority, link it to something you find enjoyable, like walking your dog. It doesn’t have to be a marathon, just a nice walk.
Take a 10-30 minutes walk everyday. As you are walking, smile. It is the ultimate anti~depressant.
Sit silently for at least 10 minutes everyday. It is a major stress releaser!
When you wake up, complete the following statement, "My purpose is to______today."
Live with the 3 E’s ~ Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
Vow to read more books, even e-books.
Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6 ~ you will learn a lot.
Set a goal to make at least 3 people smile each day.
Get organized and clear clutter ~ you will see new energy flow into your life.
Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class, yet the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
Smile and laugh more often ~ it will make you feel great!
Life isn’t always fair, yet it is good.
Don’t compare your life with others ~ You have no idea what their journey is all about.
Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements:
I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.
You only have one ride through life so make the most of it. Enjoy the ride.
There is no doubt about it, when you un~clutter your life you also un~clutter your mind.
Wealth is not just what you have, but what you are
