The Satisfaction Of Hunting

Larry enjoys hunting to provide for his family, but it is more than that, it is getting outdoors with family and enjoying God's Country, letting his mind empty of all the garbage and things of the world and being filled with the peaceful things of God.

Larry owe his interest in hunting to his Dad, who taught him to respect God's creation, but also, that it was okay to take game as a food source.

He started hunting as a young boy. His family would go hunting every season, both deer and elk hunting. His Dad taught him and his brothers the do's and don'ts, the skills and traits of hunting, taking care of what they were blessed to bring down that season, as well as respecting and enjoying God's country and all that He provides.

"And the boys grew and became skillful hunters..."

He started hunting using a rifle. Then he took up bow hunting fifteen years ago, but he hunt with both.

Larry hunts Western and Eastern Oregon and have been blessed to take his share of deer and elk down using both, a rifle and a bow.

He truly enjoy trying to out wit the wiley beast in his back yard. It is a fun challenge.

There is something special about being outdoors. Rain, snow or sunny weather does not stop us.

As hunters you should all take an interest in game management. You should always follow all hunting regulations.

Purchase a weapon that is big enough for the job and you must be able to shoot it with a high degree of accuracy. If you can, shoot several different weapons before purchasing one.

You want your weapon to become an extension of yourself. Practice finding your target in the sights. You might only get one chance this next season and you want to be ready.

                                Weapons of Choice

                     Rifles ~ There are many to choose from...

* Light End ~ 243 Winchester, 6 mm Remington, 260 Remington, 30-30 Winchester

* Medium ~ 7x57 Mauser, 7mm-08 Remington, 308 Winchester, 30-06 Springfield

* Heavy End ~ 270 Winchester, 280 Remington, 7mm Remington Magnum

* Larry's personal choice ~ 7mm Remington Magnum

                     Bows ~ This a if you are using a compound...

* Light End ~ 50 pound Bow

* Medium ~ 60-70 pound Bow

* Heavy End ~ 70 plus pound Bow

Larry's personal choice ~ 70 pound Mathew's DXT Compound Bow.

The 70 pound bow is a good choice for deer. A compound bow, with at least a 80% let-off, is ideal when your waiting for that perfect shot at full draw.

As a hunter, Larry has a responsibility to the sport of hunting to make quick harvests and recover all game animals. When that is complete, we gather round the campfire to eat our campfire stew (dinner) and tell our hunting stories.

As a hunter, Larry spend a lot of his spring and summer dreaming about the return of fall. On the outside it may appear that he is in a thoughtless daze, but inside his mind is filled with a longing for the solitude and joy that can only be found in God's country.

                     Process Your Own Game

It's pretty darn simple...we think so any way. We make it a fun family time together cutting and wrapping our harvest.

If you don't already know, it saves you money. It's in times like these that stretching your dollar really hits home.

It gives you the assurance that it is your meat and not a mix of every animal in the next six counties. One can't be too safe these days. It gives you the confidence that your meat is clean and cut to your satisifaction. You are in charge!

Most of all, it is the satisfaction of completing the hunt and enjoying the fruits of your labor! Now that's a great feeling.
